On Monday morning at about four o'clock Martin F. Cheever, a brakeman on the New York, Pennsylvania & Ohio railroad fell from a freight train and was killed almost instantly by the cars passing over him.  The accident occurred while they were shifting cars and the first that was noticed was by the front brakeman who saw Cheever's lantern disappear.  Mr. Gallagher and Patterson at the flag house on the crossing of the P., Ft. W. & C. track also noticed the cars move as if they were going off the track and upon going to that spot, but a few rods north, they found Cheever's body mangled in a horrible manner.  It was conveyed to the N.Y.P. & O. baggage room and there remained until it was taken to Kent where the Odd Fellows were given in charge of the same.  Cheever originally came from Troy, New York, and not long since was employed by John Berno as a mason in constructing the Clifton House bridge.  He was single and whether or not he leaves any relatives is unknown.
